We currently have 25 Shires and would like to reduce our numbers. We are making available some unbelievably high quality Shires, so that others can enter the Shire world with International genetics without the cost of importing these wonderful horses from overseas.
We are proud of our breeding programme at Southern Cross Shires. We have some of the best bloodlines in Australia, having imported five mares and a stallion from the UK over the last few years. We are also using imported frozen semen from the best UK Shire stallions.
Our horses are properly managed and handled on a regular basis. They are regularly drenched, and have their feet trimmed each eight weeks by our award winning Master Farrier, William Collyer.

Duke is a bay Shire stallion, sired by one of the UK's leading stallions, Bodernog Master, who has been extremely successful for his owner, Brian Banham in Norfolk. Duke's dam is Acle Pride, who was highly placed at the Wembley Shire Horse of the Year Show. Duke is a very athletic stallion with excellent action for a Shire. Duke's first progeny are now four years old and are excellent types. All of his progeny are solid bay in colour with good feet, strong legs & joints with plenty of feather. Duke has an attractive head with kind dark eyes. He consistently produces these traits in his progeny. Duke's temperament makes him an easy stallion to work with during the breeding season. As we now have a good number of Duke's progeny on the ground, and will be using him again this breeding season, we will consider either selling or leasing him after this year's breeding program.
